چکیده

We present zircon (U-Th)/He(ZHe) data for 17 Proterozoic basement samples from elevation profiles on the three peaks in Front Range of Colorado that are at elevations over 14,000 ft. (4267 m, locally known as “fourteeners”), with complementary Raman a sample subset. ZHe dates Longs Peak northern uniformly Late Cretaceous to Eocene (37 ± 1 Ma 137 2 Ma), while those Mt. Evans (34 606 18 Ma) and Pikes (111 5 773 central southern old Cryogenian. The results suggest hotter burial temperatures north, attributable northward thickening proposed previously. Neoproterozoic sandstone injectites range kimberlite-hosted Cambrian sedimentary xenoliths document Precambrian was surface Cryogenian and/or Cambrian, inferred previously below Great Unconformity range. Thermal history modeling demonstrates fourteeners compatible hypothesis initial exhumation throughout by study outcomes highlight important considerations resolving deep-time thermal histories, including younger magnitude, detailed sampling position structural blocks, availability paleosurface markers, construction inverse models integrate geologic knowledge designed test geologically realistic scenarios.

Colorado Front Range

The term “landscape structure” refers to the configuration of vegetation and other land features over a large land area (usually an extent of many square kilometers). A landscape can be regarded as a mosaic composed of patches of different kinds— for example, different forest types, landforms, or human-built structures such as roads. The scientific discipline of landscape ecology is concerned w...

the algorithm for solving the inverse numerical range problem

Data for Snowmelt Model Development, Calibration, and Verification at an Alpine Site, Colorado Front Range

Logistical constraints have caused data collection in seasonally-snow covered areas to generally be on a campaign basis with limited instrumentation. The problems of winter access, cold air temperatures, and blowing snow cause both equipment malfunctions and problems with consistent and timely maintenance. At the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) network site in an alpine area of Colorado, w...

Kinematic data for the Coast Range fault and implications for exhumation of the Franciscan subduction complex

Kinematic data from two segments of the Coast Range fault are used to test the hypothesis that the Franciscan subduction complex was exhumed by extensional faulting. The data reveal a consistent geometry for the principal directions of brittle strain. The maximum extension direction has an east-west orientation and lies subperpendicular to the present attitude of the Coast Range fault, which di...

Patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation deduced from apatite and zircon U-He ages from Fiordland, New Zealand

[1] New apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He ages from the Fiordland region of New Zealand’s South Island expand on earlier results and provide new constraints on patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation and cooling across this region. Zircon (U-Th)/He cooling ages, in combination with increased density of apatite ages, show that in addition to a gradual northward decrease in cooling ages that was seen dur...
